What is a WhatsApp Drip? (And Why It’s Dangerous)
We have all done it.
You sign up for an ebook or a webinar.
Day 1: You get the email. You open it.
Day 2: You get another email. You ignore it.
Day 3: You get a “Checking in…” email. You hit Unsubscribe.
Traditional Email Drip Campaigns are dying a slow death. The average open rate for a welcome sequence drops by 50% after the first email. By the third email, you are shouting into the void.
But the concept of a “Drip” (sending a sequence of messages over time) is still solid. You need to nurture leads. You just need to change the delivery mechanism.
In this guide, I’m going to show you how to build a WhatsApp Drip Campaign using Pura.Ai that generates 80%+ open rates consistently. No spam, just strategy.
What is a WhatsApp Drip? (And Why It’s Dangerous)
A “Drip” is a series of automated messages sent based on a timeline.
- Trigger: User joins.
- Wait 24 Hours -> Send Message 1.
- Wait 48 Hours -> Send Message 2.
The Warning: On Email, you can send 10 messages, and people will just ignore them. On WhatsApp, if you send 10 useless messages, they will block you.
Because WhatsApp is a high-attention channel, your content must be High Value, Low Frequency.
We developed a strategy at Pura.Ai called the “3-Step Value Ladder.” Here is how it works.
The Strategy: The “3-Step Value Ladder”
Do not ask for the sale immediately. Use this sequence to build trust first.
Day 0: The “Instant Gratification” (The Trigger)
The moment they sign up (on your website or ads), deliver exactly what you promised.
“Hi Priya! Here is the link to the ‘2026 Marketing Guide’ you requested. Happy reading!”
Day 1: The “Did You See This?” (Value Add)
Wait 24 hours. Do not sell yet. Point out something specific valuable they might have missed.
“Hey Priya, quick tip: Check out page 7 of that guide. 📖 It shows a trick to save 20% on ad spend. Let me know if you try it!”
Why this works: You aren’t asking for anything. You are being helpful. This builds the “Reviewer Credibility.”
Day 3: The “Social Proof” (The Soft Sell)
Wait 48 hours. Now that you’ve given value, show them others are succeeding.
“We just helped a client in Chennai use that same strategy to double their leads. Would you be open to a 10-min demo to see how it works for your business?”
[Button: Yes, Show Me]
[Button: Not Now]
How to Build This in Pura.Ai (Step-by-Step)
You can set this up in the Pura.Ai Flow Builder in about 15 minutes.
- Set the Trigger
- Source: “Website Form” or “Facebook Ad Lead.”
- Tag: Assign tag “New_Lead_Nurture.”
- The “Wait” Blocks
This is the magic. In the Flow Builder, drag the “Delay” block.
- Set Delay #1 to 24 Hours.
- Set Delay #2 to 48 Hours.
- The Condition Check (Smart Logic)
Don’t be a robot. Before sending the Day 3 message, add a “Condition” block.
- Condition: “Has user replied?” OR “Has user booked a demo?”
- If YES: Stop the Drip. (Don’t annoy someone who has already converted!).
- If NO: Continue to Message 3.
The “Green Tick” Rules for Drips
Because these messages are sent after the initial 24-hour window, they must be Template Messages.
This means you cannot just type them out; you must get them approved by Meta inside the Pura.Ai dashboard.
How to get approved:
- Category: Select “Marketing” or “Utility.”
- Opt-Out: Every single message in a drip sequence MUST have a footer: “Reply STOP to unsubscribe.”
- Relevance: Meta will reject vague messages. Be specific. “Here is your update” is bad. “Here is the guide you requested” is good.
Real Results: Email vs. WhatsApp Drip
We ran a split test for a client in the Real Estate sector.
- The Offer: “Download Brochure for New Apartments in OMR.”
- Audience: 500 Leads split into two groups.
| Metric | Email Sequence (Mailchimp) | WhatsApp Sequence (Pura.AI) |
| Open Rate (Day 1) | 22% | 96% |
| Open Rate (Day 3) | 12% | 88% |
| Click-Through Rate | 3% | 35% |
| Site Visits Booked | 8 | 42 |
The Takeaway: The WhatsApp drip didn’t just get read; it generated 5x more appointments.
Conclusion: Scale Your Impact, Not Your Admin Team
Education is about mentorship, not management. Every hour your teachers spend calling parents about fees or answering “Where is the link?” is an hour they aren’t teaching.
By implementing Student Engagement Automation, you turn your institute into a modern, tech-enabled brand that students love and parents trust.
